Greetings! My name
is Kristy Mall and I am a third grade teacher at Discovery School in
Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Discovery School is a multiple award winning
school for gifted and high achieving students and is part of the
Murfreesboro City School System.
Some Facts About Me
*I have been teaching for more than 20 years.
*I have extensive training in gifted education and earned that employment
standard in 2001. I also have extensive training in autism and in
twice exceptional children.
*I am the 2014-2015 Tennessee Gifted Ed Teacher of the Year and a 2014 Ruthies Finalist for Favorite Teacher of Rutherford County!
*I am the SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted - an
international support group for parents of gifted and gifted students)
liaison for the state of Tennessee and serve on several committees for
the National Association for Gifted Children.
*I am currently working on my Ed.D at Trevecca Nazarene University and will graduate in May.
*I have a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction and a B.S. in English from MTSU.
*I am certified to teach grades 1-8 in all subjects and 7-12 in English.
*I am a former Tennessee Teacher of the Year finalist, Tennessee
Outstanding Young Educator, and Tennessee Association for the Gifted
Horizon Award Winner.
*I am also a consultant for Scholastic Inc., have worked with Vanderbilt
University's SAVY program, and present at conferences at the National,
State, and local levels.
*My students have won national, state, and local awards, and I would love for you to let me know about opportunities for them!
*I have a black belt in Wado-Ryu Karate, went through the Olympic Training Program in soccer and played for the Tennessee State Select Team, and played for a two-time world championship winning softball team!
*I love to travel and and have been to 4 continents so far. I was even born in Africa! I have taken
students to Turkey for Space Camp, taught classes and traveled with students in China, and have had all sorts of wonderful
adventures in my life. Needless to say, I love for my classroom to be
an exciting place in which we embrace different cultures and learn about the wonderful world we live in!

I am also married and have two wonderful children: a 11 year old son and a 16 year old daughter.
